Preserving History - It's a Snap
Tuesday, March 9, 2010
There's something really satisfying about watching the slide show at the End of the Year Banquet. You get glimpses back in time, catching a snapshot of kids and parents in different locations in each frame. Now is the perfect time to start capturing those photos - in digital format if possible - and video clips. Take advantage of the beautiful spring weather and get some of those pictures locked away for the banquet. David Thickens, master of the slide show, is handing off the baton for collecting and assembling all the photos. As soon as a successor is determined, we'll provide a link for sending photos and clips.

Fun Race and Race Ski Demo 3/14
Monday, March 8, 2010
Fun Race Spring is here, and it is time for our club fun race. The race format will be two runs of Slalom followed by two runs of GS. The best SL run will be added to the best GS run to determine total time. Inspection for the SL runs will begin at 9:30am, and we should wrap up with awards about noon. This is going to be a casual, low pressure race, and should be a lot of fun. We will be grilling burgers and hotdogs (provided), and hope that folks will bring sides and drinks to share - sort of a quasi pot-luck.
It would be helpful to get a sense of numbers, so please sign up on the sheet in the team room. Race Ski Demo Ski Hut has arranged for several ski companies (Volkl, Blizzard, Head and maybe Fischer) to bring demo race skis on Sunday for our athletes to try out. They can try them during the morning, or we will also re-set a SL course after the fun race and continue to provide timing. The focus will be primarily on Slalom skis, but there should be some GS skis as well. This is a great opportunity for athletes to find the skis that work best for them. The demo will start at 9:00 and wrap up early afternoon. Remember, the time change! Saturday night (technically early Sunday morning) is when we "spring forward", so make sure you set your clocks ahead or you will show up to the fun race an hour late. :(

Rally for the Wieczorek Family
David Thickens
Thursday, February 25, 2010
As some of you may have seen on the recent news, the Wieczorek family, who have several members affiliated with our club - Isiah on the Freestyle team, Tom on our Board, and Kayla who graduated last year - had a fire at their home on February 24. Everybody got out safely, but there was significant damage and they will be out of the house for some time.
For the time being, they are set up in a hotel in Canal Park while they figure out what the restoration process will entail. As you can imagine, even the stuff in the house that was not directly affected by fire and water still has significant smoke damage. (Corey was on the first engine to arrive at the house).
For those that want to help, Karen Tusa has volunteered to be the clearing point. She will collect donations of cash or checks, and use them to buy gift certificates to area restaurants. Her address is 3780 Alder Ave, Hermantown, MN 55810.
Thanks,
David
