    FAQ Questions Sought
    Tom Duffus, DSAC President
    Tuesday, March 4, 2008

Parents and athletes: we are assembling a Frequently Asked Questions list for the Club on all topics. Please submit to club president Tom Duffus your suggested questions (tduffus@conservationfund.org).  A small team of parents will compile your suggestions and formulate answers.

This is an effort to continually improve the tools we provide to parents and athletes with which they can learn about the specifics of our programs and competetive skiing.  Newer families often are confused and frustrated as there is much to learn.  Communication and information are key.  While we do not have the resources to run a "turn-key" program, parents and athletes have a number of good tools to use to get themselves up to speed, including this website, the Parent Mentor program, coaches, Board Members and the Team Duluth Information Sheet handed out at the Potluck (this is now linked under the "Team Duluth" page).

THANKS FOR THE ATMORE HELP !!!

    Saturday, February 16, 2008

Please accept my thanks and gratitude to all of you who volunteered to make the 30th Annual Atmore Memorial a success. Without the help of our volunteers it would not be possible to hold this race. We enjoy the dedication of coaches, former athletes, parents and current athletes (D-team, Age class and Ability) who recognize the importance of this race to our club.  We also appreciate the contributions of the Central Division who pitched in and helped. Thank you all.
Coaches: Week in and week out you are there to put up B-net, fencing, trainers and lend your knowledge to our competitors. You put in long hours and are rewarded primarily through the results our competitors show in competition. We couldn't put on the races without your dedication to our athletes and your commitment to ensuring a fair and safe race. Thank you.
Parents: You recognize the amount of work required to put on the premier race in the mid-west. Without all of us pulling on the same end of the rope we would not enjoy the reputation we do today. People from around the country and around the globe come to Duluth year after year. They enjoy a race that is run by volunteers but rivals any race you will experience put on by a paid race staff. Team Duluth is second to none!
Athletes: All of you, current and former, D-team through ability; you conduct yourself with pride and integrity on the race course or as volunteers. When you attend races in other venues look around and see how races are conducted. Be confident in knowing that your hard work does not go unnoticed, your dedication and esprit is influential, it's catchy! Thank you.
The spirit of dedication and involvement during the Atmore Memorial is contagious. Parents and coaches from other teams want to be involved because they want to be part of an exemplary event. Year in and year out we have the highest participation in "our" race than any other in the mid-west; it's not an accident!
Our club benefits greatly from this race because it is one of our biggest fundraisers. For those of you who participated, thank you. I would encourage all of you to participate next year and be a part of this great tradition.
    With gratitude,
    Tom Wood
Chief of Race, 30th Annual Atmore Memorial

    WE NEED ATMORE HELP!!!!!

    Friday, February 8, 2008

This year's Atmore is scheduled for February 8-10.  We're still looking for volunteers both on the hill and in the race office.  This is OUR club fundraiser.  Proceeds from this event help keep our training fees down as well as offset costs for gates, timing equipment, and other essentials.  If you'd like to help, please contact Tom Wood at  woodskier@msn.com or Joanne Piper-Maurer at skijopiano@msn.com.  If you are interested in volunteering, but need more information on the various jobs, please click here.

On Saturday, December 15, the Development Team will have a 'Ski With the Coaches' day.  This fun-filled day allows the members of the D Team to ski with their respective coaches and get to know the DSAC staff and Spirit Mountain.  Skiing will go from 9-12.  D Team members should meet at the Team Room.

    Regular Season Training

    Tuesday, December 11, 2007

Regular season training has begun.  Training for Age, Ability, and Junior Team members takes place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5-7 p.m.  Weekend training will be posted on the board in the Team Room.

During the season, the 'Training Hotlink' page on the DSAC website will be utilized for updates concerning training.  The calendar will also be updated as quickly as possible with new training dates and times.

Training times will be adjusted when Spirit Mountain opens for full time operation in the middle of December.

While Spirit is in limited operation, efforts will be made to provide on-snow training opportunities at other local ski areas, including Lutsen and Giants Ridge.

Stay tuned for news on the Development and Freestyle Teams, and the NJRS schedule.
